Netflix Reveals the Cast of “The Ultimatum: Queer Love” in New Jam-Packed Trailer
The second season of “The Ultimatum,” coming to Netflix later this month, has a major difference from the streamer’s other hit reality dating shows like “Love Is Blind.” The upcoming season, subtitled “Queer Love,” exclusively features a cast of couples made up of women and nonbinary people who all identify as, of course, queer.
Just like in the first season of “The Ultimatum,” one-half of each couple has issued a warning: they marry now, or ultimately break up. But since everyone could potentially couple up (or hook up) with everyone else, there are a lot of opportunities for maximum chaos when the show returns this month – which Netflix teased when it released the first trailer for the new season on April 16. The streamer then dropped the full trailer on May 3 and announced the cast members whose lives are about to be upended by the show’s drama.
Season one of the hit show premiered on Netflix in April 2022. That May, Chris Coelen, the founder of Kinetic Content (which produces the show), opened up to The Hollywood Reporter about what viewers can expect from season two. “We’re already well into season two, and it’s amazing,” he said. “Honestly, it’s so good – stories are so interesting.”
Coelen continued: “The cast of participants in season two is a very different set of participants than we saw on season one. This is a very big, common question, and a huge milestone for people who are interested in getting married. Just setting up the experience and the stakes of that, and then just allowing them to really go through this in the way that makes sense for them. It turned out to be very different, but equally as great, as season one.”
Ahead, here’s everything to know about “The Ultimatum: Queer Love,” including the release date.
"The Ultimatum: Queer Love" Plot
Generally speaking, the dating series gives couples a choice: to stay in their current relationship and commit to marrying their partner, or move on and spark a connection with someone else on the show – aka someone else who’s also in a relationship. In a test of love and commitment, the couples are forced to evaluate whether their relationship is meaningful enough to commit to by entering into a “trial marriage” with someone else. But season two ups the stakes since every participant could match with any other person on the show.
"The Ultimatum: Queer Love" Cast
Netflix officially announced the cast on May 3. It includes contestants Lexi, 25, who issues an ultimatum to partner Rae, 27; Mildred, 33, who gives an ultimatum to Tiff, 32; Yoly, 34, who issues an ultimatum to partner Mal, 36; Sam, 31, who gives an ultimatum to Aussie, 42; And Xander, 30, issues an ultimatum to Vanessa, 30.
"The Ultimatum: Queer Love" Host
Season two is hosted by actor JoAnna Garcia Swisher. “Love Is Blind” hosts Nick and Vanessa Lachey helmed the first season of “The Ultimatum: Marry or Move On,” but the couple will not return for the show’s second installment due to scheduling conflicts, Nick told POPSUGAR in September 2022.
“We wanted to be a part of this season, but logistically, schedule-wise, it couldn’t work out,” he said, explaining that the filming overlapped with Vanessa’s “NCIS: Hawai’i” filming schedule. He added that “Everyone will be very happy” with Swisher. The boy-band member also confirmed the couple will return as hosts for “The Ultimatum” season three.
