Oscar Isaac teased the return of his superhero, Moon Knight – and possibly a second season of the character’s eponymous the Marvel Disney+ show – at New York Comic Con on Sunday, Oct. 9. During a spotlight discussion with Cameron Matthews that POPSUGAR was on hand for, Isaac said of his MCU character and show, “Are you looking at a season two? All I can say is it is not the last we’ve heard of the system that is Moon Knight.”
“Moon Knight,” which premiered on the streamer back in March, was ordered as a limited series. But that doesn’t mean there isn’t room to tell more of Marc and Steven’s story, and the series’ end-credits scene teased a very interesting plot line that would see Isaac taking on a third persona in the character.
On Sunday, Isaac also reflected on what attracted him to the lead role in “Moon Knight” and how he ultimately became an executive producer on the series. “I became obsessed with the whole show and what it could be, and figuring out what the story was and digging deeper and deeper,” he explained. Pretty late in the process, Marvel asked him if he wanted the executive-producer credit. “At first I didn’t want to be at all a producer on it in case it stunk,” he joked.
Isaac also opened up about how difficult it was as an actor to switch between the two main characters he played, Marc and Steven. A huge asset in his success, he said, was his brother, Michael Benjamin Hernandez, who would help him rehearse. “We would take different turns playing the different parts,” he explained. And on set during filming, Isaac had an earpiece that would feed him the lines that he was reacting to.
“I really, really love doing ‘Moon Knight’ so much,” the actor told the assembled crowd. “I had so much fun being Steven. I miss Steven.” He explained regarding his connection to the character, “He’s just so funny and honest and just authentically himself. I just loved how . . . he is in the world, how he related to people without the filter of judgment.”
Isaac also spoke briefly about his time in Star Wars and especially his connection with costars John Boyega and the late Carrie Fisher. He said of Fisher, “We just immediately hit it off, and she felt very much like family. You know, warm and funny and damaged like my family and like me.” Isaac also previewed the graphic novel “Head Wounds: Sparrow,” which he helped develop and which will be released later in October.
