Pink Says She’s “Saddened and Disappointed” Over Headlines About Christina Aguilera Feud Rumors
Pink is not loving the narrative surrounding her press tour to promote her latest album, “Trustfall.” Earlier this month, the “So What” singer revealed in a BuzzFeed interview that “Lady Marmalade” was her least favorite music video to make, reigniting Christina Aguilera feud rumors in the process. Over the course of a week, some media coverage shifted toward the rumored feud, leading Pink to speak out in an Instagram post shared on Feb. 26.
“I’m so saddened and disappointed by the narrative surrounding some of the press I’ve been doing around my album Trustfall,” she captioned a selfie of herself and her son, Jameson. “While some of the responsibility lays with me and my inability to lie, and my uncanny ability to overshare- my real disappointment lies in the fact that the art can never be the focus when you’re a woman.”
Pink went on to note that she’s incredibly proud of not only her new album, but of the life she’s built for herself, two things that have been overshadowed by headlines focusing on something that happened well over a decade ago. She continued, “The fact that I created one of the most beautiful albums with the most beautiful people -sang my ass off, made Myself wholly Vulnerable – eleven albums in, selling out stadiums, raising good kids, steadily Employing hundreds of Good, Hardworking people, the only Thing they ask you about over and over is a silly fued [sic] from your Twenties.”
The “Raise Your Glass” singer doesn’t place all the blame on the press. She also acknowledged that she’s out of practice when it comes to “dodging the bullsh*t that gets thrown at us hardworking women.” Pink added, “I’m notorious For saying too much. But I’ve never lied. And for every one or two women I’ve had issue with – there are hundreds that I’ve complimented and supported and loved on. But we don’t talk about that.”
She then called out the societal double standards that often see women pitted against women. “I wonder when the last time Bradley Cooper or Robert Deniro were asked in interview after interview about any argument they’d ever had,” she wrote. “How about Christian Bale? We stick to the art with them. Don’t we? I’d like to have the same opportunity.”
Pink also addressed Aguilera directly in her post. “To Christina- you know where we stand. Resolved. Onwards and upwards,” her caption read. “And thank you all for listening- and for the 25 years Of kick ass love and support. Peace.”
In her BuzzFeed interview, Pink noted that personality clashes were part of the reason why “Lady Marmalade” wasn’t fun for her to make. “It wasn’t very fun to make; I’m all about fun, and it was a lot of fuss,” she said. “There were some personalities… Kim and Maya were nice. I guess it is iconic, but I remember I kept crying because my skin didn’t like the makeup. It was just… There was some annoying things happening that day.”
After the interview, social media was full of speculation that the Grammy winner was shading Aguilera. This led Pink to share a tweet on Feb. 18 addressing the rumors directly. “Y’all are nuts,” she tweeted. “Xtina had sh*t to do with who was on that song. If you don’t know by now- I’m not “shading” someone by telling it over and over and over what actually happened. I’m zero percent interested in your f*cking drama.”
For her part, Aguilera hasn’t spoken out about the renewed feud rumors, but she did touch on her past disagreements with Pink and how they’ve both moved on during a 2019 episode of “Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen.” The “Beautiful” singer said, “She was heckling me in the audience a little bit behind the director. I was like, ‘Oh, what’s going on?’ But that’s what she did back then. She’s a different person now. She’s a mom. She’s cool.”
