Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Donate to Charities Benefiting Ukraine
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry continue to show their support for Ukraine. After the Duke and Duchess of Sussex released a statement saying they stand with its people amid the Russian invasion, the couple’s Archewell Foundation donated to numerous organisations working to help the Ukrainian people. The charities include HIAS, The HALO Trust and a coalition of Ukrainian media, such as The Kyiv Independent, supported through Are We Europe. They are also continuing to work with their partners at World Central Kitchen and the World Health Organisation to assist with the global and local humanitarian response to the crisis.
“[O]ur hearts are heavy as we acknowledge the recent loss of a member of our veteran community in Ukraine, who was defending his country from attack,” Harry and Meghan said in a joint statement on March 18. “We also pay tribute to the brave men and women from our global veteran community, past and present, who have long protected their countries and families with unparalleled strength and determination. We are continuing to work and speak with the Invictus Games Foundation daily to help however we can.”
The Sussexes then encouraged people to take action and join them in supporting or amplifying their efforts: “All of us at Archewell have been inspired by the work these organisations have taken on – and also by the stories from those on the frontlines. . . . Take action to help the people of Ukraine.”
Even though Harry and Meghan are no longer senior royals, they remain committed to making a difference in the world. For Women’s History Month, they announced on their Archewell website that they would be supporting several organisations to advance gender equality through new grants. It was recently reported that Meghan’s first Archewell podcast series will be debuting this summer. Though details are still scarce, with their multiyear Spotify partnership, the Sussexes aim to build community through cultivating shared experience, drawing on first-person narratives and strong values.
