Start Stocking Up on Tissues Now: P.S. I Love You Is Getting a Sequel!
Oh, I’m sorry, did you think your crush on Gerard Butler died long ago? Well, prepare to feel a wave of nostalgia for both his abs and his 2007 film P.S. I Love You, because the story in that beloved romantic drama is going to be continuing.
Following the release of author Cecelia Ahern’s sequel to the international bestseller upon which P.S. I Love You, Postscript is getting the movie treatment! According to Variety, Alcon Entertainment has acquired rights to the film and will coproduce the movie alongside Black Label Media. Details are still pretty hazy, but Postscript “picks up Holly’s story seven years after her husband’s death, when Holly’s sister asks her to tell the story of the ‘P.S. I Love You’ letters on her podcast.” Alcon also produced the 2007 film, so it sounds like the perfect match.
Ahern released the first novel back in 2004, which follows happy married couple Holly and Gerry (played in the film by Hilary Swank and Butler, respectively). Sadly, Gerry learns he has a brain tumor and dies, leaving Holly to pick up the pieces of their shattered life. Fortunately, her grief is healed (somewhat) when she discovers that Gerry secretly left behind a present of sorts to help her cope with his loss: 10 letters that each contain heartfelt messages to her, all signed the same way (“P.S. I love you”). If I were you, I’d start stocking up on tissues now.
