On Sunday, People confirmed Sarah Ferguson has been diagnosed with breast cancer. The Duchess of York underwent a successful surgery shortly after her diagnosis. POPSUGAR reached out to Ferguson’s reps for comment on her diagnosis but did not receive an immediate response.
“Sarah, Duchess of York was recently diagnosed with an early form of breast cancer detected at a routine mammogram screening. She was advised she needed to undergo surgery, which has taken place successfully,” a representative told the publication. “The Duchess is receiving the best medical care and her doctors have told her that the prognosis is good. She is now recuperating with her family. The Duchess wants to express her immense gratitude to all the medical staff who have supported her in recent days.”
They continued, “She is also hugely thankful to the staff involved in the mammogram which identified her illness, which was otherwise symptom free, and believes her experience underlines the importance of regular screening.” The duchess is expected to discuss her diagnosis on Monday’s episode of her new podcast, “Tea Talk.”
Ferguson announced her podcast in an Instagram post in May. “It’s about time we spilled the tea… our brand new podcast ‘Tea Talks with the Duchess & Sarah’ is coming soon on all streaming platforms,” she wrote. Her cohost is her friend Sarah Thomson, an entrepreneur.
Ferguson is mom to daughters Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, both of whom she shares with her ex-husband, Prince Andrew. Earlier this year, she became a grandmother for the third time when Eugenie welcomed her second child, Ernest George Ronnie Brooksbank, with her husband, Jack Brooksbank. Ernest joined his older brother, August. Beatrice is a mom, as well. She shares daughter Sienna with her husband, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi.
