Ghostface just can’t seem to stay away. A sixth instalment of the cult-classic thriller franchise Scream is underway, Deadline confirmed. Following the box-office success of the fifth film, “Scream,” directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett are back for the upcoming installment. James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick are cowriting the screenplay; Vanderbilt, Paul Neinstein and William Sherak will produce the film; and Chad Villella, Gary Barber, Peter Oillataguerre, and Scream creator Kevin Williamson will serve as executive producers.
“Working with such a wonderful and talented family of creators – and in the lineage Wes [Craven] and Kevin [Williamson] so expertly built – has been the thrill of a lifetime and we’re so excited to bring the next chapter in the Scream saga to life,” Bettinelli-Olpin, Gillett, and Villella told Deadline in a statement.
Vanderbilt and Busick added, “Is this real life? Getting to collaborate once again with our friends on the next instalment of the Scream story is more than we could have hoped for. We are overwhelmed that we get to continue to play in the sandbox that Kevin and Wes created. It is, as Ghostface would say, an honour.”
The Radio Silence filmmakers didn’t reveal any additional details about the plot, cast, or timeline of the sixth Scream instalment. The latest Scream film brought back stars Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, David Arquette, and more. It also ushered in a new group of teens for Ghostface to terrorise, including Melissa Barrera, Mason Gooding, Jasmin Savoy, Jack Quaid, and Jenna Ortega.
