We still have two years to go until Billy Batson and crew grace our screens once more; however, each new update about Shazam! Fury of the Gods has us more excited than the last. While the first film primarily follows teenager Billy (Asher Angel), who transforms into the titular adult-size hero played by Zachary Levi when he says the magic word, it looks like the sequel will be delving deeper into Shazam! comic lore.
As of now, it’s unclear if Shazam! Fury of the Gods will continue the Mister Mind storyline set up by the previous film’s mid-credits scene. Shazam! Fury of the Gods Plot
Not much is known about the plot of Shazam! Fury of the Gods plot outside of the fact that Henry Gayden has returned as a screenwriter. We do know that Helen Mirren and Lucy Liu have been cast in the reportedly villainous roles of the daughters of Atlas. We also know that the sequel will be a bigger scope than its predecessor and that there will likely be more Shazam Family team-ups.
Shazam! Fury of the Gods Cast
Reprising their roles from the first film are Zachary Levi as Shazam, Asher Angel as Billy Batson, Jack Dylan Grazer as Freddy Freeman, Adam Brody as Shazam Family Freddy, Faithe Herman as Darla Dudley, Meagan Good as Shazam Family Darla, Ian Chen as Eugene Choi, Ross Butler as Shazam Family Eugene, Jovan Armand as Pedro Pena, D.J. Cotrona as Shazam Family Pedro, Marta Milans as Rosa Vasquez, Cooper Andrews as Victor Vasquez, and Grace Fulton pulling double duty as Mary Bromfield and her Shazam Family counterpart. New faces to the franchise include Lucy Liu as Kalypso, Helen Mirren as Hespera, and Rachel Zegler in an undisclosed role.
Shazam! Fury of the Gods Release Date
Originally scheduled to be released on April 1, 2022, Warner Bros. later announced that production for the film was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, Shazam! Fury of the Gods is expected to premiere on June 2, 2023.
