Coming off the heels of its most successful run yet with season four, Snowfall‘s fifth season is finally making its way to FX next month. Last season left viewers with a lot of lingering questions and a hell of a cliffhanger to keep them on the edge of their seats. This time, the action is sure to turn up a notch with more problems arising for the Saint family.
Snowfall tells the cautionary tale of ambitious dope dealer Franklin Saint (Damson Idris), as well as the rise, fall, and rise again of his drug business during the 1980s crack epidemic in South Central Los Angeles. Over the last four seasons, the gritty FX crime drama has explored Franklin’s huge transformation from a college-bound teenager to one of the most ruthless drug kingpins in his city.
Season four ends with an explosive finale episode full of action-packed thrills, including Franklin’s dramatic confrontation with Melody (Reign Edwards) – who shot and left him for dead in the season three finale – and Alton (Kevin Carroll) getting cornered by Reed (Carter Hudson) in Cuba. Snowfall Season 5 Plot
The logline for season five details that it will be set in the summer of 1986 just as Franklin (Idris) and his family are “on the verge of having everything they’ve ever wanted” – that is, until everything around them begins to crumble. From there, the season will focus on the peak of the war on drugs, which includes the crack epidemic becoming a prime target for lawmakers and the militarisation of the LAPD with the new CRASH (Community Resources Against Street Hoodlums) units in place. This season, the Saint family will have to navigate the violent streets of South Central, dodge neighbourhood gangs, and duck the CIA in the midst of their own turmoil.

Snowfall Season 5 Cast
Most of Snowfall’s staple cast members are expected to return for season five – including Idris, Hudson, Isaiah John, Amin Joseph, Angela Lewis, Michael Hyatt, and Sergio Peris-Mencheta. Devyn Tyler will join the cast as a series regular opposite Idris, and Brandon Jay McLaren, DeVaughn Nixon, and Tiffany Lonsdale have all been tapped for heavily recurring roles.

FX announced that Snowfall will return on Wednesday, Feb. 23, with two new episodes to kick off its fifth season.
