The first half of “Stranger Things” season four was a wild ride from start to finish. We were constantly on the edge of our seats wondering if our favourite characters would survive Vecna‘s wrath, and after finally finding out the monster’s identity in episode seven, we’re itching to know what happens next. Sadly, we’re going to have to wait a few weeks until we get the answers we’re longing for the final two episodes of season four won’t premiere on Netflix until July 1.
With the season almost at its close and with so many loose ends yet to be tied up, here are eight questions we desperately hope get answered in “Stranger Things” season four, Vol. 2.
Is Max Still Cursed at the End of "Stranger Things" Season 4, Vol. 1?
Max is nearly killed by Vecna in episode four, but luckily, her friends are able to save her using her favorite song, which is “Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God)” by Kate Bush. After her attack, Max continues playing the song on loop in case Vecna comes back for her, which leads us to think she could still be in trouble. I mean, we haven’t heard the rest of her goodbye letters to her friends, so what if the show is saving it for a possible death in the future? We really hope that’s not the case, but you never know.
How Will Hopper, Joyce, and Murray Get Back Home in "Stranger Things" Season 4, Vol. 2?
Although Joyce and Hopper are finally reunited, they’re still not out of the woods at the end of “Stranger Things 4,” Vol. 1, since they still have to somehow figure out a way to escape the Russian prison with Murray and Dmitri, aka “Enzo,” without getting killed by the Demogorgon. Then, they’ll need some type of transportation to get as far away from the prison as possible. The plane they arrived in has been destroyed, so how will they get away?
Will Mike, Will, and Jonathan Get to Eleven in Time in "Stranger Things" Season 4, Vol. 2?
Mike, Will, and Jonathan pinpoint Eleven’s location thanks to Dustin’s girlfriend, Suzie, but they’re not the only ones close to finding her. Lt. Colonel Sullivan tortures Agent Wallace in hopes of figuring out where Owens is hiding Eleven. At first, Wallace is able to resist revealing any information, but after he can’t take the torture anymore, he finally tells Sullivan where Eleven is but begs him not to hurt her. Since Sullivan is now on the way toward the Nina Project, too, it’s a rush against the clock to see who will get to Eleven first.
Will Nancy Choose Steve or Jonathan in "Stranger Things"?
It’s clear Nancy and Jonathan have grown apart due to their long-distance relationship, but they’re not willing to admit it. Nancy thinks everything will be OK once she and Jonathan reunite and begin college together, but what she doesn’t know is that Jonathan doesn’t actually plan to attend the same college as her. The season seems to be teasing that a breakup is on the horizon for these two, especially since there could still be sparks between Nancy and Steve, which Robin and Eddie even point out at one point in season four. Who will she end up with? It could really go either way.
Is Nancy Vecna's Next Victim in "Stranger Things" Season 4?
After Steve gets sucked into the Upside Down, Nancy, Robin, and Eddie follow him into the watergate and help him fight against a swarm of Demo Bats, which are small creatures that resemble the Demogorgon that can fly. However, when even more Demo Bats rush toward them and begin guarding the gate, the group is forced to find another way out of the Upside Down. Luckily, they find another gate in Eddie’s trailer. Robin and Eddie make it to the other side, but just as Nancy and Steve are about to join them, Nancy gets put into a trance by Vecna, who shows her visions of Barb’s death and his own past. This leads us to think Vecna could be out to get Nancy next.
Why Is the Upside Down Stuck in 1983 in "Stranger Things"?
While in the Upside Down, Nancy suggests the crew go to her house to get guns from her room in order to protect themselves against the Demo Bats and Vecna. Once they arrive, they find out the guns aren’t there because the Upside Down seems to be stuck on the day Nov. 6, 1983 – the exact date Will went missing in season one – meaning the guns don’t exist yet.
In a June 2 interview with Variety, the Duffer Brothers revealed we’ll learn more about why the Upside Down is frozen in time when the series returns on July 1. “I’m sure someone on Reddit will figure it out based on what they see in Volume 2,” Matt Duffer said.
Does Will Secretely Like Mike in "Stranger Things"?
Since the beginning, the series has seemed to hint that Will could be gay, and the latest season of “Stranger Things” has only raised more questions about his sexuality since it seems to be hinting Will has a crush on Mike, who is currently dating Eleven. Because of this, fans are wondering whether Will could come out in Vol. 2.
In a May 30 interview with Variety, Noah Schnapp, who plays Will on the show, suggested his character’s sexuality will be left up to the “audience’s interpretation,” however, David Harbour (Hopper) and Finn Wolfhard (Mike) teased we’ll definitely find out more about Will’s secret crush in the future. “If you’ve been watching the show, you should know that Will is not interested in El. He’s interested in someone else in the group,” Harbour said in a May 23 Netflix promo video. “Yeah, you’ll see soon,” Wolfhard added.
What does that mean for Will in Vol. 2? The Duffer Brothers told Variety in a June 7 interview that Will’s “journey and arc is far from finished,” but they can’t say much without spoiling the rest of season four.
Will Eleven Fight Vecna in "Stranger Things" Season 4, Vol. 2?
Eleven temporarily gets her powers back in episode five, and then appears to have them fully restored in episode seven after she’s finally able to unlock her suppressed memories about One, aka Henry Creel. We have yet to see her back in action again, but the season four trailers tease she’ll use her powers to blow up the entrance to the bunker that leads to the Nina Project. If Mike, Will, and Jonathan find her and take her back to Hawkins, we could see Eleven fight Vecna. After all, it wouldn’t be an epic “Stranger Things” finale without Eleven fighting the big bad of the season, right?
“Stranger Things” season four, Vol. 2, will premiere on Netflix on July 1.
