4 Theories About Who Is in the Car With Kyle in That “Sweet Magnolias” Season 1 Cliffhanger

A lot happens in season one of Netflix’s “Sweet Magnolias,” but the big cliffhanger in the last episode is a massive car accident. Though the show primarily focuses on the three main women – Maddie (JoAnna Garcia Swisher), Dana Sue (Brooke Elliott), and Helen (Heather Headley) – the cliffhanger actually comes down to Maddie’s son Kyle (Logan Allen). After he gets into an argument with his older brother Ty (Carson Rowland), he speeds off in Ty’s new car, ultimately getting in a wreck. But as the episode fades out, we realise Kyle isn’t in the car alone – so who is his passenger? That’s what we’ll find out in season two, which drops on Netflix on Feb. 4.
Fortunately, we won’t have to wait long, as Swisher told “Us Weekly” in November 2020 that the reveal comes quickly. “It’s not even the most interesting part of season two, and it’s not even the most interesting part of the first episode,” she shares. “When I read the script, I had kind of known that. I mean, obviously, it’s very interesting to find out who [it] is. That is obviously a huge cliffhanger, but I was like, ‘Oh, OK,’ so it’s really like a one-two punch.”

Is Nellie in the Car With Kyle in the "Sweet Magnolias" Season 1 Finale?
When Nellie (Simone Lockhart) chases Kyle with Annie (Anneliese Judge), she’s better equipped to get to Kyle the fastest, Twitter user Anne Campbell pointed out. “And finally, #SweetMagnolias, who was in that car with Kyle? If Ty made it to the car in time, there’s no way he’s letting Kyle drive. I think it has to be Annie or Nellie. Annie’s in a fancy dress and shoes, Nellie’s in comfortable clothes. Answer: Nellie.”
Plus, with the budding romance Nellie and Kyle have going on, it stands to reason she’d be with him.

It’s possible Annie is the one who got in the car with Kyle. If you recall, Kyle has a crush on Annie, but Annie is crushing on Tyler. So in the chase to get to Kyle, Annie could have possibly jumped in the car to try to reason with him. Twitter user Rayna Hartman pointed out, “Regarding who else was in the car… Ty or Annie maybe? They are two people who I think would try to stop Kyle from driving and or Nellie due to height and appearing obscured by the EMT’s.”

A popular theory is that Tyler is the one who actually ran after Kyle and got in the car with him. This theory became even more popular after the season two trailer dropped, as Ty can be seen with a cast on. However, some fans have said that if Tyler got to the car in time to get in, he wouldn’t have let Kyle drive.

Is Noreen in the Car With Kyle in the "Sweet Magnolias" Season 1 Finale?
It’s a bit of a far-fetched theory to think Noreen (Jamie Lynn Spears) is the other person in Kyle’s car, but she and Kyle are close, and he could have called her while upset. One Twitter user speculated this could be the case, but we already know Noreen probably wasn’t anywhere nearby after walking away from Kyle’s dad (Chris Klein).
