Taylor Swift made a surprise appearance at the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday, Aug. 28. The singer, whose piece “All Too Well: The Short Film” is nominated for five awards at the ceremony, walked the red carpet in a short, sparkly silver dress.
Swift released “All Too Well: The Short Film” alongside her 2021 album “Red (Taylor’s Version).” The almost-15-minute short starring Sadie Sink and Dylan O’Brien was written and directed by Swift. The film is soundtracked with “All Too Well (10 Minute Version) (Taylor’s Version),” the extended version of her original 2012 song “All Too Well.” At the VMAs, “All Too Well: The Short Film” is nominated for video of the year, best long-form video, best cinematography, best direction, and best editing.
Early in the ceremony, Swift won the award for best long-form video. She was flanked by O’Brien, cinematographer Rina Yang, and producer Saul Germaine as she took to the stage. She thanked Sink, O’Brien, Yang, and Germaine and the rest of the crew for their work on the short. Swift said, “We put our entire hearts into this trying to make something that might be worthy of the love you, the fans, have shown this song. Thank you for this beautiful indication that we did something right.”
Swift’s fans have been restless lately, awaiting news of her next rerecorded album. The singer has already released songs that are expected to appear on “1989 (Taylor’s Version),” including “Wildest Dreams (Taylor’s Version),” “This Love (Taylor’s Version),” and, most recently, “Bad Blood (Taylor’s Version)” in July’s “DC League of Super-Pets.” But that album’s first single, “Shake It Off,” is currently embroiled in a plagiarism lawsuit that appears to be keeping Swift from moving forward with plans for the full rerecorded album.
Still, Swift has a busy fall lined up. She’ll appear in the movie “Amsterdam” this November alongside Margot Robbie and Anya Taylor-Joy.
