It’s me, hi, I’m the party, it’s me. Taylor Swift was the life of the MTV VMAs on Sept. 12, taking home a total of nine awards, including the coveted video of the year for the second year running. With more moon people than she could carry and much of her beloved Eras Tour still on the horizon, the queen of the VMAs made sure to celebrate accordingly. Throughout the night, the cameras caught Swift in a series of highly relatable moments: fangirling over an unexpected NSYNC reunion, carefully selecting a complimentary beverage, and belting out the lyrics to Demi Lovato‘s “Sorry Not Sorry.”
As the now-viral #DrunkTaylorsVersion hashtag may suggest, some credited Swift’s energetic spirit to the venue’s free-flowing libations (and stark lack of food). “We need to see this Taylor more often,” one fan wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter), commenting on a video of Swift enthusiastically hyping up Ice Spice. “This is my new favorite video of her she is just so effortlessly funny & cool,” another wrote, adding a video of Swift dancing to Lovato’s “Cool For the Summer.”
According to Variety, Swift’s candid reactions are such an integral part of the VMAs that there’s actually a camera operator solely responsible for filming her at all times (even during live performances). Creepy as it may sound, it seemed to pay off this year, blessing us with the gift of Swift. In all fairness – tipsy or not – Swift still managed to pull off nine very impressive acceptance speeches and made it to the Ned NoMad afterparty in New York City. In our eyes, as the first person to win video of the year four separate times, we only wish we could party along with her. Read on to see the best of #DrunkTaylorsVersion at the VMAs.
