Taylor Swift and Taylor Lautner are reunited (professionally) and it feels so good. On July 7, Lautner backflipped his way on stage to surprise fans at Swift’s Kansas City show. The duo’s reunion came as Swift premiered the new music video for “I Can See You” – which stars Lautner, Joey King, and Presley Cash. King and Cash, who appeared in the music video for “Mean” back in 2011, also joined Swift and Lautner on stage.
In her introduction of Lautner, Swift acknowledged how much her ex was there for her when she first wrote the songs for “Speak Now.” As reported by Variety, she told the crowd, “He was a very positive force in my life when I was making the ‘Speak Now’ album, and I want to say he did every single stunt that you saw in that music video. He and his wife have become some of my closest friends, and it’s very convenient because we all share the same first name.”
Lautner, his wife, Taylor Dome, and Swift had some fun with their mutual first name, as well. Both Swift and Lautner shared a photo featuring them and Dome re-creating the famed Spider-Man meme featuring three Spider-Men all pointing at one another in confusion on the music video’s set. The “Twilight” actor captioned his post, “Secrets out! Tonight was wild.”
During his time on stage, Lautner gave Swift a sweet shout-out, letting the world know how happy he is that they’re still friends long after their breakup. “I respect you so much,” he told his ex. “Not just for the singer you are, the songwriter, the performer – but truly for the human you are. You are gracious, humble, kind, and I’m honored to know you.”
Swift released “Speak Now (Taylor’s Version)” at midnight on July 7. As many Swifties know, the album features the song “Back to December,” which was inspired by her split from Lautner, whom she met in 2009 on the set of the movie “Valentine’s Day.” Unlike other songs inspired by her breakups – think “Dear John” – “Back to December” is actually a song about regretting saying goodbye to her former love.
