“The Bear” Has Been Renewed For Season 2 – What to Know

Everyone is saying “Yes, chef” to Hulu’s newest hit “The Bear,” with critics praising and Twitter swooning over the show. Jeremy Allen White, “The Bear”‘s lead star, spent 10 years on the Chicago-set show “Shameless,” playing Lip, a genius stuck in the violent cycle of poverty with his dysfunctional family. Now, in “The Bear,” White takes on the role of Carmen ‘Carmy’ Berzatto, a genius chef who’s made his way back home to Chicago to run his late brother’s restaurant and, hopefully, raise it from a rundown, C-grade sandwich shop to a respectable establishment, all while rekindling his relationship with his dysfunctional family.
The high-intensity drama has proven to be the surprise breakout of the summer. The show has been praised for its realistic depiction of working in a kitchen, the intense and consistent pacing, and the outstanding performances. It currently boasts a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and has received tons of media attention, which begs the question: Will “The Bear” get a season two?
Worry not, “The Bear” fans. The answer is yes. On July 14, FX announced in a press release that “The Bear” has been picked up for a second season. “‘The Bear’ has exceeded our wildest creative, critical, and commercial expectations,” said FX Entertainment President Eric Schrier. “We can’t wait to get to work on season two.”

"The Bear" Season 2's Plot
In “The Bear” season one, Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto moves to Chicago to take over his family’s sandwich shop, The Beef, after inheriting it from his brother, Micheal, who died from suicide. While in New York, Carmy worked at the best restaurant in the city and was a rising star in the world of fine dining. But when he moves back to Chicago, his new, strong-willed staff could care less about his acclaim and isn’t thrilled about his grand ideas to change the restaurant. But as the series progresses, the staff comes around, they start to work more efficiently together, the kitchen gets cleaner, and it becomes clear that – even through all the yelling and fighting – they have grown together and created a fantastic menu.
The penultimate episode of season one contains mostly screaming as the chefs try to get a handle on their new to-go ordering system. Carmy freaks out and lashes out at his sous chef Sydney (Ayo Edebiri) and his baker Marcus (Lionel Boyce). They both end up quitting. However, by the end of the finale, they return to The Beef. Carmy apologizes to them, but it’s clear there is a lot to work through between the three of them.
At the end of the season Carmy and co. find a ton of money hidden in the tomato cans, left by Carmy’s brother, Michael. Earlier in the finale, it’s revealed that Michael and Carmy always envisioned opening a restaurant together called The Bear. By the end of the episode, Carmy posts a sign at the door saying The Beef is closed and The Bear is coming soon, leaving the door wide open for another season of the roller-coaster that is Carmy’s kitchen.
In GQ’s profile on White, he said he hopes for a season two. “To me, the whole first season feels almost like a prelude to what the show actually is,” White said.
The season ended with Carmy rekindling his lost relationship with his family and creating a new family through the kitchen, so season two will likely dive deeper into those relationships as they build The Bear.

"The Bear" Season 2 Cast
In a press release, FX confirmed the entire main cast will return to “The Bear” for season two, including Jeremy Allen White as Carmy, Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Richie, Ayo Edebiri as Sydney, Lionel Boyce as Marcus, Liza Colón-Zayas as Tina, Edwin Lee Gibson as Ebraheim, Matty Matheson as Neil Fak, and Abby Elliott as Carmy’s sister, Sugar.
It’s unclear at the moment if Jon Bernthal will return as Carmy’s late older brother Michael in flashbacks, but fans certainly hope so.

"The Bear" Season 2 Release Date
In the press release announcing season two, “The Bear”‘s co-showrunners and executive producers Christopher Storer and Joanna Calo said, “We are so grateful to FX, our insanely talented cast, our crew who worked hard, fast, and in the dead of winter, not to mention everyone who watched. And we can’t wait to bring you all back to The Bear in 2023,” so fans can be sure the show will be back for season two by next year.
FX has not confirmed the exact premiere date, but considering how understated the show is – with its minimal set changes and fast-paced plot – it’s hard to imagine season two would take all that long to go into production and film. For that reason, it’s safe to expect “The Bear” season two will release around June, as the first season did.
