Can you believe that we are just days away from “The Block” 2023 premiere? It’s scheduled to start on Sunday, August 6, and we can’t help but get excited about the new season’s stunning location. This year, the show bids farewell to the rolling green hills of Gisborne and returns to suburbia. Instead, we say hello to five classic brick homes in Melbourne’s Hampton East on Charming Street.

Unlike last year’s original homes in Gisborne, which proved to be quite a challenge for contestants, these classic brick homes in Hampton East are in relatively good condition and ready for a fresh start through renovation magic.

Now, let’s take a look at what each house on “The Block” 2023 has to offer.

“The Block” 2023 Houses

This modest four-bedroom, three-bathroom brick home was recently sold in 2021 for $1,440,000. But Channel 9 reportedly invested a tidy $3 million for the property in June 2022.

Spanning an impressive 609 sqm, this is one of the largest homes in the bunch. Though its interiors might be dated, the latest online listing showcases beautiful original timber floorboards. It also features vibrant pops of blue, and a large wraparound deck leading to a leafy backyard. And did we mention it has an adorable cubby house?

Positioned on a 594 sqm block, this blonde brick home features two bedrooms and one bathroom. That makes it the smallest of the five. Channel 9 acquired it for $2.3 million, which is a significant jump from its last auction sale in 2008 for $605,000.

Inside, a beautiful original brick fireplace adds character to the living room. It features ample natural light streams in through the nearly floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the garden. Despite lacking a bit of street appeal, the presence of a beautiful mature tree holds the promise of a picturesque setting.

This four-bedroom brick beauty, sold back in 2016 for $1,416,000, already boasts plenty of loveable features. From a terrazzo bathroom floor to a charming crazy-paved patio, it’s a renovator’s dream come true. Not to mention the main bedroom with French doors opening to the garden.

The spacious home on a 574 sqm block even comes with a double garage featuring a workspace. No wonder Channel 9 decided to invest $2.75 million in this gem.

Limited details are available about this four-bedroom home. Records indicate that the same family has held it for nearly three decades. Originally purchased for $130,000 in 1995, reports suggest Channel 9 splurged $3.5 million to acquire this property, making it the most expensive of the five homes.

While the interior remains a mystery for now, the home’s charming facade showcases delightful ’50s-style features, such as a curved covered entryway and garden bed, along with a pitched tiled roof.

Dubbed “charming by street, charming by nature,” this beautiful 1950s brick home was sold for $1.889 million in 2021. Situated on a generous 632 sqm block with a blooming garden, it retains many of its original mid-century features, including etched-glass doors, a brick fireplace, and retro kitchen splashback tiles.

With three bedrooms, one bathroom, and space for four cars, it exudes character and was purchased by Channel 9 for $2.75 million.

“The Block” 2023 premieres Sunday, August 6 at 7.00pm on Channel 9 and 9Now.
