Hey, Upper East Siders, it’s officially the end of the road for “Gossip Girl.” After only two seasons on HBO Max, the scandalous revival is, unfortunately, bidding viewers farewell following its surprising cancellation. Creator and showrunner Joshua Safran broke the sad news on social media on Jan. 19, a week before the show’s season two (and series) finale. But he made sure to send the show off with the juiciest ending that only Gossip Girl herself could drum up.
The “Gossip Girl” reboot flipped the script on a familiar plot straight out of the gate when it revealed the title character’s true identity to viewers at the start of its first season, so it’s only fitting that the series concludes by exposing her to the rest of the world. While Kate’s Gossip Girl (Tavi Gevinson) has been manipulating and torturing our favorite Manhattan elite – Julien (Jordan Alexander), Zoya (Whitney Peak), Monet (Savannah Lee Smith), Luna (Zión Moreno), Aki (Evan Mock), Audrey (Emily Alyn Lind), Max (Thomas Doherty), and Obie (Eli Brown) – since the very beginning, the group of friends gets the last laugh when they trick her into revealing herself in the series finale.
But, of course, no “Gossip Girl” plot is ever that simple.
