The Voice Australia had plenty of surprises in store for Sunday night’s episode.
Mick Harrington, otherwise known as the “Mower Man” at the lawn mowing and landscaping business he owns, gave a smashing performance, singing Somewhere Over the Rainbow.
His voice left the judges shellshocked, with Keith Urban saying, “one of the things this show epitomises is that you cannot judge a book by its cover. There’s an absolute beauty in your voice and it’s all spirit. It’s pure spirit.”
His feedback was followed by Jessica Mauboy saying, “This moment I know is going to change your life.”
But while his performance had all four coaches spin their seats immediately, it was what happened after that left an impression.
Before he picked a coach, Mick had an announcement to make.
“Before I make a decision, I have a much bigger decision for someone else to make,” he said while holding the hand of his longtime girlfriend, Becca, with whom he shares two children.
He then proceeded to get down on one knee, before asking, “will you marry me?”
His girlfriend answered a big, resounding yes while wiping away tears of joy.
While Becca chose a lifetime with Mick, the singer himself decided to commit himself to being coached by Team Jess for the duration of the competition.
