Stock up on sunblock: “The White Lotus” is returning for a third season. On Nov. 18, HBO announced that the hit series has been renewed amid its second season, set in Sicily, Italy. In the announcement, the network said the third installment will follow “a new group of guests at another White Lotus property,” though it didn’t specify where in the world that property might be. It also didn’t reveal if Jennifer Coolidge will reprise her role as Tanya – the only main character to appear in both seasons of the show so far.
“Reflecting on ‘The White Lotus”s humble, run-and-gun origin as a contained pandemic production, it’s impossible not to be awestruck by how [creator Mike White] orchestrated one of the buzziest and most critically acclaimed shows. And yet, he’s only continued to reach new heights in season two, which is the ultimate testament to Mike’s raw, unparalleled vision,” Francesca Orsi, executive vice president of HBO programming, head of HBO drama series and films, said in a statement. “We couldn’t be more thrilled to get the chance to collaborate on a third season together.”
White also added, “There’s no place I’d rather work than HBO and there’s no people I’d rather partner with than Casey Bloys, Francesca Orsi, Nora Skinner, and their incredible team. I feel so lucky to get this opportunity again and am excited to reunite with my amazingly talented collaborators on ‘The White Lotus.'”
Season one of the series premiered in July 2021 and won ten Emmys at this year’s awards ceremony. Season two premiered on Oct. 30 and will wrap up this December. It stars Coolidge, Aubrey Plaza, Michael Imperioli, Meghann Fahy, Theo James, Haley Lu Richardson, and Tom Hollander. HBO has yet to announce a release date for the new season, but, presumably, we can expect it sometime next year or in early 2024.
