That Tiger King TV Show Is Still Happening – Meet the Cast, Led By Kate McKinnon
This time last year, the craze over Netflix’s Tiger King docuseries was just beginning to die down. We wouldn’t be surprised if over the course of the last 12 months you forgot that not only is there a movie in the works (starring Nic Cage), there’s also a TV series. Kate McKinnon was actually cast as Carole Baskin back in November of 2019; months after that news quietly came and went, there was a popular Wondery podcast about the stranger-than-fiction story and the Netflix series became a cultural phenomenon. Since then, US network NBC has announced that the McKinnon series will be exclusive to its streaming platform, Peacock. We don’t yet know where the show will air in Australia.
Take a look at the actors who have been officially announced below – we’re still curious about who Peacock will tap for Doc Antle and Howard Baskin!
Kate McKinnon as Carole Baskin
Kate McKinnon was the first to join the cast of the series. Variety reported in November 2019 that McKinnon is set to play Exotic’s rival, Carole Baskin, in the upcoming miniseries.
John Cameron Mitchell as Joe "Exotic" Schreibvogel
Shrill fans know John Cameron Mitchell as Annie’s eccentric boss, Gabe Parrish. He’s stepping into the dusty cowboy boots of Joe Exotic, Carole’s nemesis.
Dennis Quaid as Rick Kirkham
Dennis Quaid is playing Rick Kirkman, the black-hatted documentarian who discusses Joe Exotic over a cup of coffee in Netflix’s reality series.
Brian Van Holt as John Reinke
Remember John Reinke? The former G.W. Exotic Animal Park employee will be played by Brian Van Holt, who recently starred in Fox’s series Deputy.
Nat Wolff as Travis Maldonado
Nat Wolff is taking a break from The Stand to play Travis Maldonado, one of Joe Exotic’s husbands. The real Maldonaldo died in 2017 following an accidental gunshot wound.
