Tyler James Williams Has Been Pretty Quiet About His Past Romances – But He’s Definitely Single Now

Tyler James Williams struggles with relationships as Gregory Eddie on “Abbott Elementary” – and it sounds like the actor also has a bit of trouble with romance in the real world. “[The fame] makes it hard to be seen,” he told GQ in a March 22 interview, saying that his notoriety has made it hard to move past surface-level connections. “I’ve also never gotten a chance to introduce myself to anybody,” he continued. “There’s something that’s really cool about when I look at people and I’m like, ‘Damn, y’all met and she ain’t know nothing about you. You just were able to give her who you are right now.'”

Williams has been in the spotlight for a while, starring as Chris Rock on “Everybody Hates Chris” beginning in 2005. He also starred as Cyrus DeBarge in Disney Channel’s “Let it Shine,” played Noah on “The Walking Dead,” and currently stars on “Abbott Elementary” as a character whose feelings for fellow teacher Janine Teagues (Quinta Brunson) have long been percolating. Williams himself isn’t even sure if Janine and Gregory should try to go the distance just yet. “I’ve always been pro-Janine and Tariq because I love him,” he said. “But I’m pro-Janine and Gregory, after growth. They need to grow into the people they’re becoming. Because I’ve yet to even see who they’re becoming as a performer, I can’t say that they should be together yet.”

In the GQ interview, Williams also confirmed that he’s currently single. Back in November 2022, he told Bustle that he was on the exclusive celebrity dating app Raya, though he prefers to meet in person rather than message. “We can’t move via DM. Everything is being watched,” he quipped.

Fans have speculated about Williams’s dating history for years, with some even theorizing that he might have dated Keke Palmer, who he costarred with in an episode of “True Jackson VP” in 2009. For the most part, though, Williams has kept his personal life pretty private and has never confirmed any of his relationships, though he’s been linked to a few women over the years.
