Australian Idol, yes, the show that made Guy Sebastian a star back in 2003, is returning to our screens and to say we’re excited would be an understatement.
The singing competition series is the one that started it all. Before The Voice and Australia’s Got Talent was Idol — the show that had it all.
From embarrassing auditions (the best part, really) to grand finales at the freaking Opera House, Idol was the show of the early 2000s.
Channel 7 first announced that it would be reviving the competition back in 2020, and today, they’ve offered fans a first look at what’s to come. Can we just say, the trailer was everything we wanted and more, TBH.
Not only did we get to meet a few of the contestants as they performed “Diamonds” by Rihanna, but we got a glimpse of the new judging panel featuring Kyle Sandilands, Meghan Trainor, Amy Shark and Harry Connick Jr.
“We’re going to every corner of the country to find your next Australian Idol,” said Shark.
Safe to say, we were fangirling the entire time.
With Channel 7 taking the reins from Network Ten, former host Osher Günsberg will now be replaced by Idol’s very own Ricki-Lee Coulter and TV personality Scott Tweedie.
We know you’re most likely eager to find out when the show premieres, and here’s your answer: Sometime in 2023.
Channel 7 has been drip-feeding info, first announcing the judges, then the hosts and now, dropping the first trailer.
Unfortunately, they’ve yet to tell us exactly when the competition will be starting, but we know it’s sometime next year.
Watch this space, because we’ll keep you posted as soon as we know more.
