The Picturesque Scenery of Netflix’s The Royal Treatment Has Us Packing Our Bags
Netflix’s latest rom-com, The Royal Treatment, follows ambitious and outspoken Isabella (Laura Marano), a New York-based salon owner, who takes on a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to work at a royal wedding in the country of Lavania. Little does she know that she’ll end up feeling an instant connection with the groom, Prince Thomas (Mena Massoud) of Lavania, who’s about to enter an arranged married for the sake of his expected duties. Naturally, Lavania’s lavish sets help bring this royal drama to life, so it’s easy to wonder where exactly The Royal Treatment was filmed. Thankfully this gorgeous, fictional country can be found in our world.
According to NZ Herald, production for The Royal Treatment took place between in early 2021 in New Zealand. A large portion of filming was done in the picturesque city of Dunedin, the principal city of the Otago region. Crew members for The Royal Treatment were spotted in various Dunedin locations, including Vogel St, Princes St, and the historically majestic Wains Hotel. Additionally, celebratory scenes in The Royal Treatment set in a street are courtesy of Harbour Street in Oamaru Victorian Precinct according to a Otago Daily Times report.
Scenes that took place in Lavania’s grand and breathtaking Larnach Castle, were also shot in Dunedin, NZ, with most of the interior scenes filmed in Olveston House. This historic home in New Zealand was originally built in the early 1900s for Dunedin businessman, David Theomin. Til this day, the home is still fully furnished with beautiful art pieces and heirlooms, making it the perfect set for Larnach Castle.
The Royal Treatment drops on Netflix on Thursday, Jan 20. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to live vicariously through these characters and daydream about all the magnificent locations featured in this rom-com!
