Hot off the news about Paul Mescal coming to Sydney for Gladiator II, we’ve got even more exciting updates for Aussie fans: the cast of Wicked is coming to “the land of Oz”. That’s right — Ariana Grande, Cynthia Erivo, and the legendary Jeff Goldblum are set to grace Sydney with their presence as part of the film’s global press tour.
In a video, leading ladies Grande (who plays Glinda) and Erivo (our Elphaba) announced the exciting news.
“Hi Australia! We’ve got something exciting to share,” Erivo kicked things off.
“We are heading to Australia to unveil our new movie Wicked,” Grande added, bringing the energy.
“But wait, there’s more,” Erivo teased, with Grande gesturing for someone to join them.
Then, the Wizard himself, played by the legendary Jeff Goldblum, popped into the frame. “Well, hey, if you all are going to the real land of Oz, you’re not going without me,” he confirmed, making it clear he’s coming Down Under too.
The movie’s director Jon M. Chu then chimed in to reveal Australia would be the first stop on the movie’s global press tour. The event will take place at the State Theatre on November 3.
“We have a few more surprise guests that will be joining us Down Under, so keep an eye out,” he teased.
Wicked also stars Bridgerton’s Jonathan Bailey, Saturday Night Live comedian Bowen Yang, Academy Award winner Michelle Yeoh, and Tony Award nominee Ethan Slater.
After Sydney, the cast will embark on a journey that takes them to Los Angeles, Mexico City, New York, and London, each with its own themed premiere.
What Is Wicked About?
The highly-anticipated film is an adaptation of the beloved musical of the same name. It’s a prequel to The Wizard of Oz, diving into the origin story of Elphaba, better known as the Wicked Witch of the West, and Glinda the Good Witch of the South. Fans of the musical can expect to see how these two iconic characters became who they are in the magical world of Oz.
Wicked Release Date
The first of the two-part movie release will hit cinemas on November 21. Wicked: Part 2 will release in late 2025.
