It’s almost fashion week season in Australia, queens. So, get your bold shoes, statement sunglasses and best group of babes ready — and let’s delve into everything you need to know about Australian Fashion Week 2022.
This year, Afterpay Australian Fashion Week (AAFW) will take place May 9-13, at its usual home of Carriageworks in Eveleigh, Sydney. It’ll also be streamed via their website here.
Titled AAFW: The Experience, the event will offer up nightly shows, with a focus on independent and commercial Australian designers, as well as immersive fashion stories that showcase what “Australian fashion” really looks like, including the representation of Australia’s diversity.
Included in these headline events will be a group showcase by Indigenous Fashion Projects with designers Indii, Kirrikin, Liandra Swim, Native Swimwear, Ngali and MAARA Collective, as well as a show from sustainable designer Hansen & Gretel.
AAFW also offers fashion-lovers inside access to select shows on the official schedule such as Adaptive Clothing Collective, Daniel Avakian, Dyspnea, First Nations Fashion and Design, Karla Špetić, Mariam Seddiq, Next Gen presented by DHL, sass & bide and St. Agni.
“We’re thrilled to present this lineup of designer runway shows, special events and activations exclusively for consumers taking place in-person at Carriageworks,” said Natalie Xenita, Vice PresidentManaging Director of IMG’s Fashion Events and Properties, Asia-Pacific.
“The relationship between designers and their customers has never been stronger and AAFW: The Experience gives consumers a gateway into Fashion Week to engage with the designers they follow in an intimate way.
“The five-day program offers fans a truly unmatched experience featuring runway shows from some of the newest and most notable names in Australian fashion.”
Afterpay, the leader in the iconic ‘Buy Now, Pay Later’ payments (where would we be without them?) and title sponsor for Australian Fashion Week, will stage their feature “Future of Fashion Collection” runway show on Wednesday, May 11 at 8pm, championing leading Australian fashion designers and creatives. The show will feature designers Anna Quan, Cue, Manning Cartell, Rachel Gilbert and Oroton, with more to be announced.
“We’re so thrilled to be presenting such an incredibly strong lineup of Australian designers for AAFW 2022 and bringing AAFW: The Experience to fashionforward consumers like never before,” said Nick Molnar, Co-founder and Co-CEO of Afterpay.
“After the tremendous success of AAFW 2021, we look forward to
raising the bar and supporting both emerging and established designers by showcasing them on a global scale.
“We are equally excited to be able to offer tickets to AAFW’s shows to consumers via Afterpay, making AAFW even more accessible to a wider audience.”
Yep, that’s right, you can even ‘Buy Now, Pay Later’ on your tickets to AAFW 2022!
AAFW’s series of informative conversations and panels will return with notable industry leaders discussing the most buzzworthy topics of the season.
AAFW: The Talks, presented by Glenfiddich Whisky, will feature
discussions including:
- Empowering Voices: Fashion’s Cultural Impact on Representation and Inclusion
- Digital Fashion: The New Frontier
- First Nations Fashion and Design: Yours, Mine and Ours
- Back of House
- Generation: NXT, presented by DHL, with Next Gen 2022’s four winning designers

- AAFW: In Conversation With… presented by Shopify, a series of intimate discussions with some of the industry’s favourite designers including Anna Quan, bassike, Bianca Spender, GINGER & SMART and Michael Lo Sordo and AlyceTran.
It really is amazing to see the biggest fashion event on the Australian calendar support conversations around representation, diversity, technology and sustainability, that quite frankly, needed to be had. It’s also fabulous to see the Australian fashion industry get behind the next generation of designers who are bringing refreshing new perspectives to the industry at large.
Get ya heels on gals, and get ready to clip clop around Sydney during what is to be the best Australian Fashion Week yet.
For any extra information, or to purchase runway or event tickets, there are limited tickets available now and live on the AAFW website, with the ability to use Afterpay at the checkout. Please note: all AAFW shows are open to the public.
