Statement Sunglasses Are Back For Summer and Here’s Where To Shop Some of Our Faves
Statement sunglasses are always a mood. It doesn’t matter what kind of day — or night before — you’ve had, statement sunnies always make you look effortlessly glam.
Thanks to the Anna Wintours and Miranda Priestleys of the world, fashion love a pair of statement sunglasses. From the large cat-eye style in the ’60s, to the oversized butterfly frames of the ’70s, to the oval bug-eye that has transcended eras, sunglasses’ styles have evolved and been repurposed throughout fashion history.
I don’t know if you’ve ever noticed, but sunglasses never go out of fashion. Sure, the style changes, but they always come back around and, even then, no pair of sunglasses is really unfashionable if you wear them with style.
For the summer of 2021 and heading into 2022, it’s amazing to see the thick vintage frame is officially back. Brands are loving pastel colours, bold frame sizes and shapes, and many local brands have leaned into using sustainable materials . . . which we adore.
We know that buying sunglasses online can be tough — because you want to make sure that the shape suits your face before you purchase. Lots of online stores have a virtual try-on feature, which can also be super useful! Otherwise, we’d recommend going window shopping and trying on as many different pairs as you can to get a feel for what suits you. But TBH, big bold frames kinda suit everyone, which is why we love them so much.
Here are some of our favourite sunglasses of the season and where to shop them.
Dollin by Szade
Szade has just released a whole collection of sustainable and gender-neutral sunnies that are super funky. We love the Dollin in Tainted Lime ($79.99) for their retro feel.
Holiday Shades in Black
Not only are the shades from Skye + Lach super chic, they’re also extremely protective.
Their oversized design is a tactical one. As well as giving huge Miranda Priestley energy, they give more coverage to the skin around your eyes, which helps prevent skin discolouration and sun spots developing.
So, if you’re looking for chic shades that will keep your eyes looking youth, give the Holiday Black ($95) shades a go.
Stevie by Poppy Lissiman
Poppy Lissiman is known for its bold accessories, and this year’s sunglasses are no different. We love the Stevie ($135), especially the gorgeous colour! This blue goes with anything.
Oversized Square-Frame Tortoiseshell Acetate Sunglasses by LOEWE
Loewe’s accessories are on the more expensive end of the spectrum, but they’re so beautiful. Made in Italy, these oversized square-frame tortoiseshell acetate sunglasses ($270.09) are so ’80s but so farshun! We love.
Round Metal Flash Lenses by Ray-Ban Australia
Ray-Ban is as trusty as it gets when it comes to Australian brands. These Round Metal Flash Lenses ($238) are giving us vintage Britney.
