The ‘Great Wardrobe Reckoning’ is among us, and we’re no longer interested in anything but stylish comfort. Please and thank you.
After spending almost two entire years in our favourite activewear and tracksuit sets, and investing in an Oodie for every occasion, uncomfortable clothes just don’t have a place in the market anymore — no matter how pretty they are.
Melbourne-based womenswear label, Ergonaut, are all over it. Specialising in women’s workwear of the utmost comfort, they’re making inclusive collections that will make you feel like you’re wearing your pyjamas to work.
And now Ergonaut have just released a collection of classic pieces with modern twists (think concealed elastic waists, ultra-soft stretch fabric, side slits, functional pockets, zip covers and laser tag printing to prevent scratching). Ranging from size 8 – 18, the pieces have been worn and loved by lawyers, teachers, pregnant and post-partum professionals and women with endometriosis.
As someone that lives with endometriosis, I definitely am always looking out for comfortable work clothes, and I’ve found it can be a struggle to find ones that are also still cute.
Ergonaut has not only catered for those people — like myself — struggling with chronic pain, but also for those working hybrid jobs, that see them moving about and having to be flexible.
The Ergonaut collection features the best-selling wrap dress, blazer, shift dress, pencil skirt, a button-up shirt with unique back detail and high-waisted pants. Hundreds upon hundreds of fabrics were sampled to achieve the incredible hand-feel of the final pieces. They are soft to touch, stretchy to wear and still drape beautifully for an effortlessly chic look.
Created by Melbourne-based professional Nicola Nemaric, Ergonaut was inspired by Nemaric’s own frustrations with her work wardrobe.
“I was working in an office and couldn’t stand getting out of my pyjamas in the mornings,” Nemaric.
“I kept thinking surely someone has made corporate wear that feels like pyjamas. They have got to be out there. But that just isn’t where brands have been focusing. Comfort is an after-thought. In the end, I decided to make my own label where comfort and style are given equal priority.”
Ergonaut launched at the very start of the pandemic. Now that comfort dressing has taken on a whole new meaning, the collection has taken off, as more and more professionals seek pieces that make them look put-together while still feeling luxuriously comfortable.
“Running a new business is pretty challenging. If it wasn’t for the incredible feedback I receive from customers, I would not have the motivation to keep going. I have customers DM me all the time saying they’re surprised how comfortable the clothes are. That’s why we’ve introduced the risk-free trial – we want everyone to have the chance to try them and experience the softness for themselves. If they don’t love them, they can get a full refund.”
