Katy Perry took denim-on-denim to a new level for the 56th Annual Country Music Association Awards on Nov. 9. The pop star went through three all-denim looks styled by Tatiana Waterford for different parts of the night.
On the red carpet, Perry wore a light-wash pantsuit from Marques Almeida‘s spring 2023 ready-to-wear collection. The top half of the ensemble featured a plunging corset bodice with boning and off-the-shoulder sleeves.
On the bottom, she wore matching low-rise pants, covered by a large bow detail that draped over her waist, creating the illusion of a skirt. Perry and Waterford accessorized the look with a diamond choker and Diamond of Elizabeth pointed-toe PVC pumps, embellished with faux diamonds and pearls from Mach & Mach. When it was time for Perry to perform, she changed from her royal denim-and-diamonds look to something more wearable.
For her duet with Thomas Rhett, the “Where We Started” collaborator paired a cowgirl hat and knee-high black boots with a strapless Marrknull denim dress. The skirt of the gown featured a massive leg slit accented by frayed edges that carried from the top of the slit to the bottom of the hem.
Backstage, Perry opted for the most understated look of the night, but her strapless, skintight Y2K denim maxi dress still featured plenty of drama. The top of the dress looked exactly like the waist of any old pair of jeans, fashioned with belt loops and buttons down the centre.
