You know the ‘naked dress’ trend is still going strong when you see it all over the Met Gala red carpet. So many stars rocked up in sheer outfits for the 2024 gala, and with the theme being ‘Garden of Time‘, it was like a garden of bedazzled gowns and see-through mesh bodysuits.
Remember Jennifer Lopez’s jaw-dropping green Versace dress from 2000? That dress was legendary. But fast forward nearly two decades, and it’s kind of tame compared to what we saw at this year’s Met Gala.
Today, the naked dress is like the queen of fashion trends. You’ve gotta have nerves of steel to pull it off, and let’s not forget the importance of the right undergarments for a bit of coverage.
Anyway, let’s get to the good stuff. Check out these sheer stunners that stole the show on the Met Gala red carpet in 2024.

Elle Fanning led the sheer trend with an icy interpretation, donning a transparent off-the-shoulder gown by Balmain paired with Cartier jewels and silver strappy heels. Her look perfectly embodied the ‘Garden of Time’ dress code, inspired by the Met’s new exhibition, ‘Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion’.
Then, Kim Kardashian was glowing in an artisanal Maison Margiela by John Galliano corset and floral skirt, topped with a cozy knitted cardigan. That ensemble was a whole vibe, made of pale grey thistle-washed boiled cashmere and couture corsets — fancy!
Kendall Jenner also embraced the sheer trend in a black and bronze Givenchy by Alexander McQueen gown from 1999, making her the first person to wear the archival haute couture piece. Meanwhile, Rita Ora rocked a Tom Ford gown made entirely of cascading strands of beads over a sheer bodysuit. And get this — parts of that dress are older than anyone at the Met Gala itself, according to Ora. Talk about vintage glam.

Next up, Dua Lipa’s lingerie-inspired outfit had us feeling like we were in Moulin Rouge. Her custom Marc Jacobs corset and skirt combo, with sheer opera gloves and a feathery shawl? Pure drama.
And of course, Jennifer Lopez dazzled in a sparkling sheer Schiaparelli Haute Couture gown, adorned with over 2.5 million bugle beads and four butterfly wings, symbolising the theme of Sleeping Beauty. She accessorised with a 75-carat diamond Tiffany & Co. necklace and matching earrings.
