18 Timely Pop Culture Halloween Costumes You’ll See Everywhere This Year
Halloween is almost here, and if this year is like every other, we expect to see some major pop culture moments turned into festive costumes for the celebrations marking the spookiest night of the year. So we put our thinking caps on to guess what ideas might make up the biggest pop culture Halloween costumes of 2022, plus some ideas we have for pulling them off. From our favorite characters on “House of the Dragon” to the many iconic looks from “Euphoria,” TV offers a lot of fodder for timely and fun Halloween costumes. Then there are iconic movie looks from hit films like “Turning Red” and “Bodies Bodies Bodies.”
Of course, there are the celebrities who made major headlines this year as well. There are newly married couples like Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker and Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez who would make perfect couples costumes. And don’t forget the plethora of celebrity scandals, like the “Don’t Worry Darling” drama from September. Or use “Pam & Tommy” as your inspiration and throw it way back to a celebrity couple of yore.
Whatever you need, these are some of our favorite ideas for 2022 pop culture Halloween costumes.
Eddie Munson From "Stranger Things" Halloween Costume
Fans fell instantly in love with “Stranger Things”‘s newest character, Eddie Munson, during season four. He’s also a very simple and fun Halloween costume. Snag one of the Hellfire Club T-shirts and pair it with a cool leather jacket, denim vest, and distressed jeans. If your hair is long, break out the hair spray and tease it to get it big and fluffy. For shorter hair, snag a long and grungy wig. A black and red bandana completes the look.
Chrissy From "Stranger Things"
Chrissy’s screentime during “Stranger Things” season four was brief, but she made a major impact thanks to her chemistry with Eddie – and the ultra-viral “Chrissy, Wake Up” song. You can grab a Hawkins cheerleader outfit online, or buy a plain version and use paint to DIY a logo. A full ponytail and floppy green bow finishes the look.
Cassie's "Oklahoma" Outfit From "Euphoria"
“Euphoria” always provides a lot of Halloween costume inspiration, but Cassie’s iconic “Oklahoma” look is the one we expect to see the most this season. A sweet little blue plaid dress, bouncy curls, and a full face of makeup make this look sing.
Aemond From "House of the Dragon"
We predict we’ll see tons of “House of the Dragon” Halloween costumes this year, but perhaps none more than Prince Aemond Targaryen, who has an iconically devious look. You’ll need an eye patch, a black cloak, and of course a long, blond wig. If your friend, partner, or pet wants to dress up as the dragon Vhagar, you’ll be the most devious pair this Halloween night.
The "Don't Worry Darling" Cast
Let’s not rehash all the “Don’t Worry Darling” Spitgate drama from this September, but we’d bet this will be an oft-referenced costume look. You could re-create Florence Pugh’s dress, re-create Harry Styles’s bold collar, or DIY a bottle of spit. Plus, you could always go as Olivia Wilde’s salad dressing.
Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker
This was a huge year for Kravis (aka, Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker) who got married multiple times this summer. You could re-create one of their myriad wedding looks or channel any of their gothic vibes for a fun and timely costume.
The Cast of "Bodies Bodies Bodies"
“Bodies Bodies Bodies” is equal parts hilarious and scary Gen-Z horror satire, which is why audiences loved it this summer. The movie’s bizarre cast of characters also makes great fodder for Halloween costumes. You’ll need a trendy outfit, a lot of fake blood, and glow necklaces and bracelets to keep track of who’s still standing.
The Survivors on "Yellowjackets"
Getting lost in the woods has never been as much fun – or as terrifying – as it is on “Yellowjackets.” You could use twigs, fake antlers, and flowers to make your own Antler Queen crown, or you could buy a plain blue soccer shirt and DIY your Yellowjacket soccer uniform.
Janine and Gregory From "Abbott Elementary"
“Abbott Elementary”‘s Janine and Gregory are our favorite will-they-or-won’t-they couple and a perfectly easy Halloween costume. For Gregory, wear a shirt and tie; he tends toward browns, burgundies, and purples. For Janine, wear a button-down tucked into a long skirt. Fake ID cards attached to lanyards complete the look.
Mighty Thor and Valkyrie From "Thor: Love and Thunder"
Jane Foster turned into Mighty Thor in July’s “Thor: Love and Thunder,” and she and Valkyrie were a dynamic, butt-kicking duo. For either look, you’ll need armor and a cape. If you can’t find a Mjölnir, you could DIY one with foam and paint.
Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez
Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez were another A-List couple that said “I Do” twice – and that’s not adding J Lo’s other wedding in her February romcom “Marry Me.” To dress as Lopez, wear a long, colorful maxi dress with sky-high heels. For Ben, the main accessory you need is a Dunkin Donuts iced coffee.
The Dora Milaje From "Black Panther"
“Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” doesn’t hit theaters until after Halloween, but the Dora Milaje – Wakanda’s elite female warriors – are still the perfect costume.
She-Hulk
You’ll need to bust out the green paint to be She-Hulk for Halloween. A long silvery dress would be perfect for her gala look, but you could also wear a white and purple leotard to mimic her fighting costume.
Mei, Miriam, Priya, and Abby From "Turning Red"
Pixar’s “Turning Red” introduced us to this iconic quartet of friends that would make a super-adorable group costume for four superfans.
4*Town From "Turning Red"
“Turning Red” also introduced a fictional boy band, 4*Town, complete with their own incredible bops. Orange shirts and Y2K denim are all four friends need to nail this look.
The Rockford Peaches From "A League of Their Own"
The Rockford Peaches baseball team has always been a perfect costume thanks to the 1992 movie “A League of Their Own,” but the new Amazon Prime series that debuted this summer makes this costume even more timely.
Stede Bonnet and Ed Teach, aka Blackbeard, From "Our Flag Means Death"
“Our Flag Means Death” quickly became a hit on HBO Max thanks to its combo of pirate comedy and pirate love stories. Grab your best swashbuckling garb to dress as Ed and Stede for an action-packed and romantic Halloween.
Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee
Hulu’s “Pam & Tommy” series brought Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee back into the spotlight. For Pam, you want big, blond hair and a cleavage-baring look. For Tommy, wear a black tank top, chains, and fake tattoos if you don’t already have them.
