If anyone can bring back peplum detailing, it’s Sydney Sweeney.
The “Euphoria” actor resurrected the divisive fashion trend at the HCA TV Awards on Aug. 13 in a vintage Mugler minidress with flared material gathered at the waistline. Originally designed in 1981, the green velvet number features a plunging deep-V neckline, a corseted bodice, a high-low peplum, a thick belt, and off-the-shoulder puff sleeves that hit just above her elbows. It also comes with pointy horns at the shoulders in both the front and back, a detail that earned it the “Vampire Dress” nickname.
Sweeney worked with celebrity stylist Molly Dickson to select the archival dress, snagging it from New York Vintage after researching options. Sweeney accessorised with black-and-silver Jimmy Choo pumps and De Beers diamond jewellery, including two large rings, drop earrings, a necklace, and bracelets. To finish, nail artist Zola Ganzorigt gave the star a gorgeous side-french-tip manicure that matched the forest-green hue of her dress.
At the HCA TV Awards, Sweeney walked the red carpet solo and reunited with her “The White Lotus” costar and onscreen mom Connie Britton, who wore a Reem Acra gown for the occasion. Their HBO show and its cast won a total of five awards during the ceremony, leading Sweeney to take the stage and show off every angle of her corset dress.
Sweeney’s Mugler moment is the latest example of her willingness to experiment with fashion. Earlier this summer, she attended the MTV Movie & TV Awards in a low-rise, rhinestone-covered Miu Miu skirt and cropped white button-up top, while she embraced a voluminous-train gown with a twist by Tory Burch at the 2022 Met Gala. For a “Euphoria” reunion event in April, Sweeney exuded sophistication in a sheer-paneled Alexander McQueen suit.
