Someone Wake Up Blair Waldorf: Headbands Are Back, B*tch

If you’d have told eight year old me that the stretchy elastic handband would make a fashion comeback in 2023, I would’ve said — duh, it’s my favourite one.

But now, part of me kind of can’t believe it. I don’t look back at pics of myself wearing and think “yeah, cute”. But it feels like each time I scroll down my TikTok feed, I see a new Y2K trend re-emerge, and with it, all of my Hilary Duff-obsessed days nostalgia.

At first I was a little hesitant about getting behind the Y2K-revisited fashion moments, because part of me felt a little cynical that they’d be the same as before — and no one wants to go back to low rise jeans that only look good on one body type and headbands worn over a low side-ponytail.

But the fashion influencers of today have got exceedingly better taste than the fashionistas of the early 00’s (sorry Lindsay Lohan).

These wide elastic headbands — that used to be preeeeetty ugly let’s be honest — now look simple and chic. Worn to pull your hair back off the face, styled down and bouncy with blow waves — it’s actually a huge vibe.

Below, we’ve got three headbands varying in price and style, for you to shop now and get behind this trend.

Princess Polly

The Juney Headband Black

This The Juney Headband Black ($12) is a simple and affordable option from Princess Polly.

It also comes in lemon yellow, great for babes with bleached eyebrows. Match your brow to your band!

Alo Yoga

Airlift Headband

Alo Yoga’s Airlift Headband ($40) is a perfect hybrid pant, for sweat or style.

It comes in 12 colours, including cream, purple, red, green and brown and made out of their signature, micro-performance, double-knit Airlift fabric — great for absorption.

This headband also boasts no slip grips, which is honestly music to our ears.

Prada

Prada Re-Nylon Headband

If you want to get fancy with it, this Prada Re-Nylon Headband ($765) is stylish and good for the environment.

The headband is made out of re-nylon, a regenerated nylon yarn made from recycled, purified plastic trash collected from ocean, fishing nets and textile waste fibres.

It also has a silver adjustable buckle at the back, rather than full elastic, which makes it less tight on your head for all my headache girlies out there.
