Victoria Beckham is known for her impeccable dress sense, but there have been some questionable sartorial choices in her back catalogue. Perhaps the most famous of the all is that matching leather look she wore back in 1999 with then-fiancé, David, which she addressed on Bravo’s “Watch What Happens Live”.
Speaking on the show on 24 Oct., the fashion designer was shown photos of her past outfits in a segment called, “So Posh or Oh Gosh”. Among the looks was the matching biker jackets and leather trousers that she wore with David back in the late ’90s. “I mean it haunts me. It does haunt me, but I love it,” Victoria said on the show. She also addressed the controversial choice of designer. “It was hot. We were wearing Gucci. It was a Versace dinner, which is inappropriate in itself,” she laughed. “But, you know, we really considered those outfits. I mean we really talked about it. There was a naïveté to it that was just so sweet.”
Victoria also put rumours of her reuniting with the Spice Girls to bed. “You know, I had so much fun being in the Spice Girls, but, you know, I think that now with everything else that I’ve got going on with my fashion and my beauty line, four children, you know, I just, I couldn’t commit to that,” she said. “But I had so much fun in the Spice girls. I love the girls. I really, really enjoy singing Spice Girls when I’m doing karaoke, but I think I’d better leave it there.”
She has been known to grab the mic for a rendition of Spice Girls hits, having recently busted out “Stop” on a family yacht holiday earlier this summer and posting to Instagram, but it’s unlikely we’ll see the original lineup take to the stage. At least for now, anyway. Instead, Victoria has been focussing on her fashion career and her family, having recently visited Disney World with David, Cruz, and Harper. Despite rumours of a feud with daughter-in-law Nicola Peltz, the whole family were all smiles when they attended Victoria’s spring/summer 2023 show at Paris Fashion Week.
Victoria might have joked about that iconic couple’s look worn over 23 years ago, but it doesn’t mean the pair have stopped channelling each other’s style. They wore matching yellow outfits on their 23rd anniversary holiday, proving couple’s who dress together really do stay together. And it seems their coordinated looks have rubbed off on their friends Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas, who stepped out in matching leather jackets just last week. Couple dressing is on the rise, and we have the Beckhams to thank for it all these years later . . .
