The 2024 NAB AFLW Season is About to Start — Here’s Why You Can’t Miss It
We’ve partnered with AFLW to get you keen for the 2024 NAB AFLW season.
The 2024 NAB AFLW season is upon us, everyone. From late August, these legendary athletes are going to go head-to-head in one of the most exciting leagues Australia can offer. Not only is an AFLW game a great chance to rally behind some local legends, but it’s always a fun day out.
Even better? It only costs you $15 to attend (and kids under 18 get in free!)
In a time where we’re all watching our wallets but still want the euphoria of watching elite sport live, the AFLW has you covered. $15 for a day out with friends in the springtime, celebrating some of the best athletes in the country — it’s really getting the bang for your buck you deserve.
But affordability isn’t the only reason to catch an AFLW game (or several) this year. Here’s why making it to a game needs to be on your spring to-do list.
It’s Giving Picnic-core
Attending an AFLW game means aligning with something you were probably already planning to do in the warmer weather anyway — spending a day relaxing in the sun. We see the vision — you and the girls, a bottle of rose, sun beaming down on you. With Round 1 kicking off on August 30,it’s the perfect way to spend a spring-day.
With picnic essentials, like a blanket and basket, and ample amounts of sunscreen, you can relax in the sunshine on the grass. Chuck in your digital camera and you’ve got the day out you and your social media has been begging for.
You’re also surrounded by so many people enjoying the same thing, which elevates it beyond just a regular picnic. It’s a day out so fun that you’ll almost certainly be back for more.
Meet the Local Heroes
Part of what makes watching an AFLW game so special is getting to see those time-stopping moments on the field. Those moments that leave you holding your breath, even if you don’t follow the sport, because the enthusiasm is so infectious.
But AFLW games take that excitement to another level, because you can meet those very same people who made your heart stop. After the game’s ended, you can greet the athletes, ask to take a selfie with them and even ask them to sign something. Not only is this exciting memorabilia, but it will also always remind you of a great day out, and maybe even signal when you found an AFLW player that you had no choice but to stan.
Not bad for $15, right?
AFLW is for Everyone
Like with any sport, there might be a misconception out there that only those who follow AFLW can truly enjoy an AFLW game. Trust us — that is absolutely not the case.
Take it from POPSUGAR Australia’s own Hameda, who became obsessed with AFLW after just attending one game. It’s a super welcoming environment, with people of all levels of devotions to the sport. We’re talking about a place where complete newcomers and longtime veteran fans can laugh and cheer together without any judgement.
Don’t worry – there’s no pressure to have to dress in team colours (though if that’s your vibe, go for it!). Not only that, but it’s also an easy and exciting way to get out of the house, whether you’re meeting up with mates or taking the family for a day out. A completely family friendly event – with kids under 18 entering for free – that’ll cater to any level of footy fan. One day at an AFLW game, and you might just have found your new obsession.
The NAB AFLW 2024 season gets underway on Friday, August 30, with the finals taking place in November. That’s over four months you’ve got to see an AFLW game near you, just for $15!
