Reusable period care options are becoming more and more commonplace. They’re a more environmentally friendly solution to a tampons and cotton pads. But in the same way that not all pads and tampons are created equal, not all menstrual cups are the most comfortable for everyone.
Enter: The Nixit Menstrual Cup ($70) — a disc-shape device that 88% of customers reported they can’t feel during use.
Founder, Rachael Newton wanted to create a menstrual cup that was for everyone. Thus, Nixit’s Menstrual Cup has a very different design in comparison to most other cups that are more cone shaped. This was an intentional choice to make the cup easier to insert and wear for longer periods of time — up to 12 hours BTW.
Unlike other cups, Nixit’s version sits at the base of the cervix in the vaginal fornix. If you’ve ever worn a diaphragm for contraception, it has a similar position. This means mess-free period sex!
And despite looking quite shallow, the Nixit Menstrual Cup can hold up to four super plus tampons worth of flow or 70ml of fluid before it needs to be emptied. It also promises no leaks when inserted correctly, according to the brand’s response to a frequently asked question. Although, popping on a panty liner until you know how to properly place it, might be a good shout.
Always remember to clean your menstrual cup before reinserting. If you experience frequent pelvic pain, consult with your healthcare professional before trying Nixit’s Menstrual Cup.
