US Women’s Gymnastic Team Win Historic World Championship Title: “Dreams Do Come True”
The US women’s gymnastics team made history on Tuesday with a record-breaking win at the 2022 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Liverpool, England. On Nov. 1, Jordan Chiles, Skye Blakely, Jade Carey, Leanne Wong, Shilese Jones, and Lexi Zeiss claimed Team USA’s sixth consecutive world title and qualified for a spot at the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics.
For Chiles, Blakely, and Jones, the tournament was their world championships debut. “Wow!! Where do I even start!!” Chiles captioned photos from her uneven-bars routine on Instagram. “[I] am beyond proud of everyone that showed out today!! I’m on cloud 9 right now. Thank you to everyone for the love and support❤️ This girl is a World Champion.”
While every athlete on the team contributed to their massive win with impressive floor, vault, and uneven-bars routines, it was Chiles’s beam rotation that had fans talking after the tournament. “Come for @ChilesJordan’s beam routine. Stay for her celebration,” NBC Olympics captioned a video of the gymnast’s routine on Twitter.
“Words couldn’t explain how truly blessed I am to be apart of this historic winning team. Dreams do come true.”
Prior to this year’s world championships, only Romania had won five straight titles, between 1994 and 2001, until the US matched the gold streak in 2019. On Nov. 1, Team USA came in first place with a score of 166.564 points, with Great Britain earning silver and Canada taking home bronze. With every world team title since 2010 under their belts, the US women’s team set a new world record on Tuesday.
“WORLD CHAMPS,” Carey wrote on Instagram following the historic win. “I am truly blessed and honored to be apart of Team USA and all the things we have accomplished. We’ve worked so hard for this historic moment and I am so proud of everyone on this team.” For Zeiss, the moment was unlike any other. “FEELING GOLDEN!” she wrote. “What an unbelievable experience here in England! Honored to be part of Team USA! HISTORY MADE!”
Celebrating their collective success, Wong wrote, “2022 World Champions! Incredibly honored to be a part of this team and so proud of each one of these girls! So grateful for everyone who supported me and helped me accomplish this goal!” In her own Instagram post, Blakely added, “Experience of a lifetime.”
“Woke up as a world champion,” she said on Instagram. “Words couldn’t explain how truly blessed i am to be apart of this historic winning team. Dreams do come true. Thanks for all your love and support! Forever a world champion. -for you dad.”
