Zakia Khudadadi, the First Taekwondo Paralympian From Afghanistan, Completes Her Tokyo Run

Zakia Khudadadi has just completed her run as the first-ever taekwondo athlete to represent Afghanistan at the Paralympics. After receiving humanitarian visas from Australia to leave Kabul, Afghanistan, Khudadadi safely ventured through Paris and arrived in Tokyo on Aug. 28.

On Sept. 2, Khudadadi competed in the women’s K44 – 49kg class, which includes athletes with unilateral arm amputation, making it all the way to the quarterfinals after her round of 16 match. Ahead, to commemorate her debut Paralympic run, are photos from both of Khudadadi’s matches.
