Animal Crossing’s 2.0 Update Will Be Its Last “Major Free” Update
It’s a good week to be an Animal Crossing fan. The free version 2.0 update is releasing this week, on November 5, alongside the Happy Home Paradise DLC. But there’s also some bad news: this will be the game’s last major update.
Nintendo confirmed the news in a statement to IGN, saying it hopes players will continue to enjoy the game in real-time. Thankfully, the update and DLC will both add a lot of new content, including the long-awaited return of The Roost coffee shop, Kapp’n the sailor and other fan-favourite villagers, more K.K Slider songs and more expansion options for Harv’s island. There’ll also, of course, be lots of new customisation options for your house included in the version 2.0 update.
In the Happy Home Paradise DLC, you’ll join Lottie, Niko and Wardell in the Paradise Planning team to create vacation homes for clients. If decorating your home is your favourite part of Animal Crossing, the new DLC will add plenty for you to play with since you won’t be limited by what you have in your inventory. Instead, you’ll use an extensive built-in inventory to furnish the vacation homes and can even change the weather to be sunny or rainy.
Your clients will have certain requests for their vacation home and may even have a theme in mind, and it’s up to you to use all the tools at your disposal to design their dream island home. It’s similar to the 3DS game Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer but with all the improvements that came with the latest game in the series.
“It is a major update to Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and offers a distinguishing and different gameplay experience,” Nintendo told IGN. “Therefore, it made sense to include it as the first and only paid DLC.”
After this, Nintendo will only be supporting the game with small updates.
