The next generation of Assassin’s Creed games was unveiled at Ubisoft Forward, including the Collector’s Edition of Assassin’s Creed Mirage and a mainline game set during the witch trials of the Holy Roman Empire. But the one announcement that has truly sent fans is Assassin’s Creed Red, because it’s set during a historical period they’ve been requesting for the series’ 15 years: feudal Japan.
Announced with the briefest of trailers, all we know so far is that you’ll be a shinobi who rounds out their arsenal with an iconic hidden blade.
It’s being developed by Ubisoft Quebec, who made the excellent Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, and will be “the next flagship title after Assassin’s Creed Mirage.” Ubisoft has also confirmed it will be an RPG.
From that, we can assume it will be a much larger game than Mirage — closer in size, scale and length to the 45-hour Odyssey or 60-hour Valhalla. We don’t know the Assassin’s Creed Red release date yet, but Ubisoft will be taking more time between releases moving forward, so we’re not expecting it until 2024 or 2025.
