Interested in Gaming But Not Sure What Games to Start With? We’ve Got You Covered
The world of gaming can feel intimidating when you’re a newbie. There are so many games to play and a number of ways to play them, how do you know where to start? Well, you’ve come to the right place because we’ve curated five of the best video games to play when you’re a beginner.
Available on a number of different consoles, from PlayStation to Xbox, as well PC, iOS and Android devices, these are the games that will get your competitive juices flowing and teach you how to navigate the wild and wonderful world of gaming.
Minecraft
Minecraft is a classic for a reason and its a great way to flex your gaming muscles when you’re just starting out. You can play Minecraft in two modes: Survival and Creative. As the name suggests, in the Survival mode, the aim of the game is to survive through building shelter, finding food and creating your universe. But you also need to watch out for mobs who can harass you and on occasion, attempt to kill you.
In Creative mode, on the other hand, you have the opportunity to let your imagination run wild and you don’t have to worry about mobs or dying. Build your virtual reality block by block as you see fit.
You can play Minecraft on PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch as well as iOS and Android devices.
The Sims 4
Chances are you’re pretty familiar with The Sims (and may have played it on your PC many years ago). The Sims is one of the greatest video games of all time, allowing you to customise every detail of your Sims — from their homes, to their clothes and their life choices. It’s addictive, creative and a little bit odd in the very best way.
The Sims 4 is available on Xbox One and PS4 as well as PC.
Animal Crossing
If you didn’t jump on the Animal Crossing bandwagon during lockdown in 2020, now is the time. This game provides a much-needed escape for gamers, where you can upgrade your house and pay off debt by making friends with animals (the dream!), catching and selling fish or digging for fossils. This game allows you to zone out of the drama of real life and get lost in a comforting world.
You can play Animal Crossing on Nintendo Switch.
Crash Bandicoot
If you haven’t heard of Crash Bandicoot, be prepared to have your life changed. The ’90s favourite has been reimagined in recent years, with Crash Bandicoot 4 allowing you to play as Crash, who is trying to put a stop to evil forces by fighting pirates and launching into space. While the premise sounds simple, this game is completely engaging and lots of fun.
You can play Crash Bandicoot 4 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox.
Flower
If you’re new to gaming and are learning how to use the controllers of a PlayStation or Xbox console, Flower is the perfect game to do just that. This low-pressure game asks you to direct wind current through wilting flowers to help bring them back to life. While the game itself is not difficult, it does allow you to execute movements that are somewhat challenging.
You can play Flower on PS3, PS4, iOS and Windows.
