Gucci is Releasing a $10,000 Xbox if You Want to Game in Style
Consoles and gaming accessories have a… look to them. It mostly involves a lot of black accented with too many RGB lights. But, Gucci is releasing a designer Xbox and it’s exactly what you’d expect from the luxury fashion house.
The Gucci Xbox Series X features a laser-cut monogram motif that’s an “evolution of the original Gucci Rhombi design from the ’30s,” according to the Gucci website.
“The GG pattern becomes a wordplay — not only representing Guccio Gucci’s initials but also the gaming phrase ‘Good Game.'”
You also get two custom Xbox wireless controllers and a hard carry case with Gucci’s blue and red stripes, “recalling vintage luggage in a subtle reference to the House’s origins.”
There’s a slight catch — Gucci and Microsoft are only releasing 100 of the limited-edition Xbox consoles, and they cost US$10,000 (AUD$13,640). Still, for that price you’ll own a piece of Gucci history and have a high-fashion Xbox unlike any other.
That price tag also includes Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, giving you access to hundreds of new release and classic games, as well as Xbox Live Gold, EA Play and Xbox Cloud Gaming. It’s unclear how long the subscription will run for, but Game Pass Ultimate normally costs $15.95 a month, so it’s not a bad score to get it for free for a while.
It’s not Gucci’s first foray into the world of gaming — the fashion house has previously created a limited-edition watch with e-sports team Fnatic, the Gucci Off The Grid collection in The Sims 4, a collaboration with The North Face in Pokémon GO, the Gucci Garden in Roblox and a collaboration with lifestyle and gaming brand 100 Thieves.
The Gucci Xbox Series X console goes on sale on November 17. Sadly, the console won’t be available in any Australian stores, but you can pick it up if you’re in New York City, Beverly Hills, Mexico City, Milan, London, Berlin, Beijing or Tokyo.
