The hulky superstar with amazing hair is reportedly set to star in the Minecraft movie. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jason Momoa is in final negotiations to lead the live-action video game adaptation, which will be directed by Napoleon Dynamite filmmaker Jared Hess.
The Minecraft movie has been in production for years, and we still know almost nothing about it. A few different directors have been attached to the project, including Rob McElhenny from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and Mythic Quest. But knowing that Jason Momoa might be attached to the project is just what we needed to get excited for it again! The Aquaman and Dune star would give the movie a much-needed dose of star power, just like Tom Holland did for Uncharted and Ryan Reynolds did for Free Guy. And hey, any excuse to watch a movie with Jason Momoa is a good one!
Until any more details are announced, we’ll just have to speculate about what the Minecraft movie will be about. In the game, players create their own world using resources they mine and gather from the environment around them. Everything in the game is made up of blocks, and there’s no story mode to follow, so it’ll be interesting to see how Minecraft comes to life in a live-action adaptation. Although it would be fun to see a Jason Momoa block in Minecraft graphics, we’re very glad the movie is taking a more realistic approach to the legendary Minecraft experience, which just surpassed 1 trillion views on YouTube and 141 million monthly players.
The announcement follows the news that Jason Momoa is joining the cast of Fast & Furious 10 as the series’ new villain, alongside Brie Larson in an as-yet unannounced role. With Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom coming out next year as well, it’s a good time to be a fan.
