This New Game is Like Wordle Meets Sudoku By Way of Crosswords
The concept of Wordle clones don’t need any introduction by now, so we’ll jump straight to the good part: Knotwords is a new game that’s part Wordle and part Sudoku, if it was played on a crossword grid.
It’s not a straight Wordle clone, but if you love solving the daily word guessing game then you’ll enjoy Knotwords too. The creator of Wordle even gave the new creation his stamp of approval, calling it “an incredibly elegant daily word game,” which is all the encouragement we need.
Created by Zach Gage, the man behind Spelltower, Knotwords features a board that looks like a crossword, but there are no cryptic clues to decipher. Instead, it’s split into segments, and each segment has a string of letters that you have to fit inside it so that they spell a word. The segments intersect each other, adding a second layer to the challenge — not only are you arranging the letters to spell a word, but you might have to arrange them so that they follow on from another segment to spell a new, longer word. If you’re still confused, the trailer does a good job of showing a game in action.
Knotwords combines Wordle’s love of unjumbling letters with sudoku’s methodical approach to puzzle solving, and houses it all inside a classic puzzle grid.
Here’s the thing we’re most excited about, though: there’s no daily limit to the amount of Knotwords games you can play. There is a new “daily classic” puzzle everyday, but there’s also a monthly puzzlebook filled with multiple standard and tricky puzzles to complete. For anyone who wants even more of a challenge, you can subscribe to Knotwords Pro for $7.99 a year or $19.99 for life to unlock “daily twist” puzzles and additional puzzlebook challenges. Pro subscribers can also see statistics about their games, which is great for anyone who loves crunching numbers.
If you’re content with the daily classic and puzzlebook games, Knotwords is a free app and available to download on the App Store and Google Play. It’s also available for PC on Steam, but you have to pay for this version.
