After years of waiting, Nintendo finally announced that the Splatoon 3 release date is September 9. Pre-orders are already live for the cartoonish third-person shooter, which is exclusive to Nintendo Switch.
Like the previous two games, Splatoon 3 is what you get when you cross FPS games like Call of Duty and Overwatch with family-friendly paintball. Instead of shooting the enemy team, the goal in Splatoon is to paint the battlefield in your team’s colour. To do that, you have access to an arsenal of comical weapons, like giant paintbrushes and the Inkzooka. Splatoon 3 will add new special weapons to help you paint the battlefield, including the stringer, a paint bow that lets you sling ink vertically and horizontally, the Crab Tank, a multi-legged vehicle that can switch between rapid-fire and wide blast modes and the Zipcaster, which lets you zoom around the map at speed.
In addition to new weapons and stages for the core 4-v-4 multiplayer mode, Splatoon 3 will also have a single-player campaign set in the mysterious lands of Alterna. An improved co-op mode is also coming, where you can team up with friends to fend off waves of Salmonid bosses.
