The Cute Fox Game Tunic Is Finally Coming to PS5 and PS4

At last week’s State of Play, Sony finally announced the Tunic PS5 release date is September 27, 2022. Since the adventure game was released in March, players have been waiting for it to make the jump from Xbox and PC, and now they can rest easy — if for a few months more.

The release date was announced in a trailer that showed the gorgeous world of Tunic captured on PS5. It begins with the fox, who you play as, walking through a huge, golden door with bright light shining through from the other side, before interacting with a glowing obelisk and wandering through a sprawling environment that stretches out in all directions. The trailer shows the fox fighting in some of the game’s Soulslike battles, discovering golden keys, meeting skeletal foxes and flipping through the retro in-game manual that acts as your journal and tutorial system.

“Stranded in a ruined land, and armed with only your own curiosity, you will confront colossal beasts, collect strange and powerful items, and unravel long-lost secrets in Tunic, the celebrated action RPG created by Andrew Shouldice and an all-star team that helped make Chicory: A Colorful Tale, Cuphead, Celeste, Night in the Woods, and Dustforce,” Adam Saltsman, the creative director at Tunic publisher Finji, said in a post on the PlayStation Blog.

Tunic was inspired by the “profound shared experiences of playing strange and inscrutable video games before the age of the internet and fan sub rom hacks,” Saltsman explains. “What is this strange item I just found? How do you beat this bizarre boss? Who is this old man in the cave? Is that creature even an enemy?”

You’ll ask yourself all these questions and more when you play Tunic, and Saltsman says they’re designing Game Help content on PS5 to give players gentle nudges in the right direction when they get stuck. It’s unclear whether they’ll also be incorporating other PS5 features like haptic feedback or adaptive triggers.

We’ll have to wait until we get closer to release to find out more. Tunic will release on PS4 and PS5 on September 27, and is available now for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC and on Game Pass.
