A “The Gray Man” Sequel Starring Ryan Gosling Is Coming – Here’s Everything We Know So Far
Netflix’s new spy thriller “The Gray Man,” directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, debuted on Netflix on Friday, July 22, receiving tons of attention from viewers and fans of the bestselling book series by Mark Greaney it’s based on. “The Gray Man” stars Ryan Gosling as the main protagonist, Six, an assassin in the CIA’s Sierra program, and Chris Evans as Lloyd, the sociopathic assassin tasked with taking out Six after he gets his hands on compromising proof of the CIA’s rising star agent Denny Carmichael’s (Regé-Jean Page) corruption. The movie’s stellar cast surely helped the film’s success, and many fans are now eagerly awaiting news about a sequel.
Well, you don’t have to wait any longer. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Netflix has already green-lit a “The Gray Man” sequel and a spinoff film. The streaming service seems dedicated to expanding the action-packed universe of the book series on screen. Read on to learn everything we know about the sequel.
"The Gray Man 2" Plot
“The Gray Man” was always intended by Netflix to be a series. But considering Netflix isn’t against cancelling projects early on (looking at you, “Raising Dion” and “Space Force”), fans were understandably unsure whether the company would end up continuing the “The Gray Man” franchise. However, the incredible response to the first instalment was enough to seal the deal on a sequel and expanded universe, apparently. That said, not much is known about the second film’s plot.
“The Gray Man” ends with Six freeing a young girl, Claire Fitzroy, from the clutches of the CIA and going on the run with her, so it’s likely the second movie will pick up sometime after that. Six will still be dodging the CIA. Having killed a lot of their agents by this point, it’s personal for them now. The first film also sets up many interesting threads that may lead to internal department corruption, more influences from outside third parties, and many more subplots that come with spy thrillers and crime dramas.
"The Gray Man 2" Cast
For now, the only cast member confirmed to reprise his role in the sequel is Gosling. No other confirmations have been made just yet, though it’s expected that the key players who made it out of the first movie alive will also return. That would include Ana de Armas as Dani Miranda, the CIA agent who ends up working alongside and protecting Six; Page as Denny Carmichael, the corrupt CIA agent; Jessica Henwick as Suzanne Brewer, who’s been attempting to bring Six in; and Julia Butters as Claire Fitzroy, the found family of Six.
"The Gray Man 2" Release Date
Currently, there’s no official release date for the next instalment of “The Gray Man.” Though the Russo Brothers are set to return as the directors, Stephen McFeely will return to write the script. “With so many amazing characters in the movie, we had always intended for ‘The Gray Man’ to be part of an expanded universe, and we are thrilled that Netflix is announcing a sequel with Ryan, as well as a second script that we’re excited to talk about soon,” the Russo Brothers said in an interview with Variety.
