Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling is supporting home study during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The author relaxed the usual licensing required for teachers to post videos of themselves reading Harry Potter books aloud to students.
Rowling shared the news on her personal Twitter account: “Delighted to help teachers reach kids at home by relaxing the usual licence required to post videos of themselves reading Harry Potter books,” she said, “Be well, everyone. More soon!”. The new copyright permissions allows teachers anywhere in the world to read any and all of the seven Harry Potter books aloud to students, using secure and closed educational networks for the remainder of the school year. The open license for teachers is the Harry Potter team’s first step in supporting children reading at home during the coronavirus – more initiatives will be announced in the next coming weeks.
