Our first full moon of 2022 is surrounded by powerful astrological events all month long. Following the new moon in Capricorn on Jan. 2 was the Jan. 8 Venus star point, a profoundly impactful day for manifesting love and money. One week later, we enter the first Mercury retrograde of the year from Jan. 14 to Feb. 3. As a result, we may experience hiccups in communication, travel, and technology during this time frame.
When Is the Full Moon in January?
The full moon in Cancer on Jan. 18 at 10:48 a.m. AEDT comes in perfect timing. With all those astrological aspects, we may find that our emotions are all over the place. But rest assured that the Cancer full moon will give us the space to not only feel all the feels, but to also cradle, care, and nurture our inner child.
What Does the Full Moon in Cancer Bring?
This water sign is ruled by the moon, so emotions may be up and down like the ocean’s tide. Navigating these unsteady waters may cause us to go from nurturing to overprotectiveness or from defensiveness to aggression. Prioritizing self-love, compassion, and gentleness for your tender heart is essential. Tap into the empathic and understanding nature of Cancer for the ultimate show of self-care.
Think of it as giving your soul a warm, loving, and protective hug during one of the coldest months of the year. Shake out all anxieties and insecurities, and instead embrace the endless possibilities of life while allowing yourself to speak out your passions clearly. Look at it like a wolf howling at the moon. After all, this full moon is also known as the wolf moon because wolves are more likely to be heard howling at this time. It’s also known as the center moon because it roughly marks the middle of the cold season.
Let’s prepare to get cozy and warm on Jan. 17 with a full moon ritual. This spiritual limpia recipe is intended to drum up the love and security your inner child may need.
Full Moon in Cancer Limpia Recipe
Ingredients:
Sage, sweetgrass, or palo santo
Epsom or pink Himalayan salt
Agua de florida
Moonstone crystal
White roses (any white flower will do)
Aloe, lemon balm, or parsley herbs
Chamomile, frankincense, or patchouli oil
Ritual:
Begin by cleansing your space with sage, sweetgrass, or palo santo to set the tone. You may even want to prepare a nice cup of chamomile tea with lemon and honey to begin this spiritual ritual. Sit down somewhere quiet and write a letter to your younger self. The letter can be about anything you’d like. There are no rules. The intention is to heal the inner child of something traumatic that may still be impacting you in your adult life.
After you write the letter. Set it aside somewhere. You may want to place a moonstone on the top of the letter and place it on the windowsill to soak in the light of the full moon. For an added touch, place a photo of yourself as a child next to the letter or under the moonstone, too.
1. Prepare your limpia by adding 1-2 cups of Epsom salt and a few splashes of agua de florida to a bathtub with warm water. Or you can make this limpia in a large bowl and pour it over your body while standing in the shower.
2. Place a moonstone in the water.
3. Add a handful of herbs and several drops of essential oil(s), and cover the top of the water with flower petals.
4. Pray over the water and set your intention.
5. Soak for 20-40 minutes.
It’s recommended to do this limpia in the evening so you can lie down afterward or enjoy a nice meditation before going to sleep. Sweet dreams.
