We’re still only a little ways into the new year, which means it’s far too early to call the top 100 baby names in 2021 for boys and girls just yet. But if we look at the data over the past few years, we can see some notable patterns that we can predict to continue.
When it comes to girls, classic names like Charlotte, Olivia and Amelia have more or less remained in the top spots for the past decade, according to reports from McCrindle. They’ll change order and more trend-based names like Isla and Mia will filter in, but let’s just say your kids can expect to have a fair few Olivias, Charlottes and Amelias in their classes throughout school.
Interrogating the data, we’re also able to note how pop culture and celebrities have influenced baby names in more recent times. While Charlotte has long been a popular baby name choice (it’s taken out the top spot seven times in the last 10 years), experts predict William and Kate’s daughter Princess Charlotte has a little something to do with its continued popularity.
In 2020, the name Luna jumped 13 spots up the list. It seems Chrissy Teigen’s daughter has as much influence as she does! Willow is another celebrity-backed name that’s seen a massive increase in popularity recently. Pink’s daughter’s moniker has jumped 66 spots in the last decade. Harper is another popular girls name in 2020, coming in ninth on the top 10 list (incidentally, David Beckham’s daughter of the same name is nine years old).
